She matches!!

Have you ever gotten really excited about something so mundane...something others would most certainly overlook? We had one of those moments this morning.

We've got a 13-year old daughter (that in and of itself brings wonder and bewilderment). While I don't have much, or any, experience with raising 13-year old girls, I can imagine that clothes can become a big issue with parents. Thankfully we do not have any problems with the question of too little clothing. Wow am I seriously thankful for that! We do have a problem, though, with what this father would like to call ugly clothing. I mean really...this girl just doesn't get the concept of matching. She often looks like some kind of freakish psychedelic rainbow when she comes downstairs in the mornings...a rainbow somehow dominated by various shades of pink. Gasp!

We have worked with my dear daughter on this issue for some time now. Of course we're also fighting against the tides of culture (won't even go down the Polish "fashion" road) and her past of dictating for herself what she will or won't wear. You know...it's not like we're freaking out on her or anything, demanding she wear only what we want. We'd just like to see a little matching...ok, and maybe a few less hues of pink!

Well, today was a major victory! The door opens. A few seconds pass...and BAM! Maroon t-shirt, nice dark jeans...and get this...a matching maroon sweatshirt jacket to wear up to school!! Do you know how exciting this is? No questions like, "Are you sure about that?" or statements like, "That doesn't necessarily go together, you know." Just utter bliss as we look at our beautiful, well-matching daughter walk across the front room and into the kitchen to eat some cereal.

Oh...you gotta love the little victories!!

P.S. - don't tell her I told you...promise? :-)
