UMC at sunset

United Methodist Church, originally uploaded by Michael Shattuck.

i captured this beautiful silhouette shot of a United Methodist Church after coming home tonight. Saw the sun going down behind this church and got home, grabbed my camera and tripod, and headed back up the road as quickly as I could. There weren't too many great colors remaining in the sky but there was light. And where there is light, there is always hidden beauty. A little processing and VOILA!...beauty exposed.

A little bird told me...

One of my photos got picked up by a St. Louis website as their arts page's photo of the week. I thought I'd share that little tidbit with y'all. I was excited to hear it. Here's the link if you'd like to check it out. Look at the book listed in the section below my photo...how funny that the author's last name is Shattuck. Her first name is Kathryn...ironically my sister's name is Katherine!

Cool stuff in St. Louis, MO!

Enjoying the Night

Enjoying the Night, originally uploaded by Michael Shattuck. Click to see more.

It's getting cold in M-O! 3 degrees this morning!! But I like the cold. I always say that being outside with a cold gust of air hitting me in the face takes me back to my days of trudging through the cold and snow to get to class at NU in Chicago. Good times...frostbite and all!

To really mark the beginning of the cold, I decided to freeze Ben and me out last night to try to get a fun shot like this. We took everything outside and setup this scene in our driveway. If you're interested in this kind of stuff, it's lit by two camera flashes (one inside the lamp and another off to the left of the camera). It's an 8-second exposure, which lets you see some background and know for sure that, yes, indeed we're outside!

We're doing pretty well here. Made it through the holidays, having a great time with all of our family. And tomorrow we're off to Chicago to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We've been looking forward to that for awhile, but my stomach will be glad when we get back and the holiday eating frenzy can end. Definitely no dieting when you're in reach of Chicago-style pizza!!

Well, just wanted to say hey and share another Michael & son shot.

Happy New Year to you all!!
